Roofers mainly cover houses, buildings and other structures with roofing materials and form strong, durable surfaces to weatherproof them. Roofers may specialise in either metal roofing or tiling, or they may be trained to work with both. Metal roof plumbers build roofs using sheet metal, waterproof membranes and other materials. They also install gutters, downpipes and other roof plumbing systems. Roof tilers finish roof surfaces in overlapping layers using clay tiles, shingles or slate.
A roofer can focus on a speciality depending on interest. The following are three major career paths:
Roof Tiler – A roofer mostly works in residential properties in this specialisation. This is also for those who prefer small scale projects over commercial large-scale projects.
Metal Roof Plumber – Mostly for commercial builds, although a wide variety of buildings use metal kind of roof. Metal sheet metals and other materials such as synthetic membranes or method sheeting to install roofs. The metal roof plumber takes responsibility for fitting the insulation, and the roof plumbing.
Flat Roofer – Roofers work with flat roofs if this is their speciality. Although this style of roof saves space, there are challenges and difficulties for this type. The roofer specialist may visit existing builds which have developed problems or maybe fitting new roofs to new builds.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

A Certificate III including at least 2 years of on-the-job training or a certificate IV, or at least 3 years of relevant experience, is usually needed. Around half of the workers have a Certificate III/IV. Sometimes, experience or on-the-job training is needed in addition to a qualification. Some additional tickets may also be required.
