Glaziers install glass in windows, storefronts, skylights, and display cases, or on surfaces like interior walls, building fronts, tabletops and ceilings in residential and commercial buildings. The occupation experienced strong growth in the last five years and projected to continue in the next five years, from 11,300 in 2018 to 10,100 by 2023 or 6,000 jobs in 5 years (1,200 jobs per year). 
 
Minimum requirements for glazier include diploma, relevant experience and registration.

Duties

  • review blueprints and specifications to know necessary work details 
  • set pre-assembled wood or metal frameworks for doors and windows before glass panel installation using hand tools
  • install glass doors into frames and bolt metal hinges, locks, handles and other hardware to attach doors to frames and walls using a level
  • measure, cut and install metal frames and enclosures for glass panels in various areas and structures, including bathtubs, showers, display cases, skylights and solariums 
  • secure glass panels and mirrors into position with cement, screws or bolts
