Painting trades worker protect, maintain and decorate surfaces of buildings and structures by applying paint, varnish, wallpaper and other finishes. Minimum requirements for painting trades worker include diploma, relevant experience and registration.

Duties

  • select and prepare paints to require colours by mixing portions of pigment, oil and thinning and drying substances
  • apply paints, varnishes and stains to surfaces using brushes, rollers and sprays
  • hang wallpaper, matching patterns and trimming edges
  • erect scaffolding, and ladders and place drop sheets to protect adjacent areas from paint splattering 
  • clean equipment and work areas
