Telecommunications Linesworker set-up, operate and maintain voice and data telecommunications network circuits and equipment to build communications systems 
 
Minimum requirements for telecommunications technicians include diploma, relevant experience and registration.  Common duties include:

Duties

  • review drawings, specifications and work areas to determine positioning and connections for equipment to be installed
  • identify defects in telecommunications equipment using ohmmeters, voltmeters, ammeters and transmission measuring equipment
  • attach wires and cables to appliances
  • adjust, replace and repair faulty items, and testing equipment using electronic instruments
  • install cabling for telephone, radio, pay TV and computer transmission
  • join cables and sealing sheaths with lead and thermoplastic
  • construct, test and maintain aerial and underground wires and cables, and radio and mobile phone antennae
  • install telecommunications equipment and appliances like telephones, switchboards and data transmission equipment
