Airconditioning and Refrigeration Mechanics assemble, install, maintain and repair industrial, commercial and domestic airconditioning and refrigeration systems and equipment. Air conditioning and Refrigeration Mechanics need to be able to follow blueprints and specifications to install the units and be comfortable with working in close quarters. They are also expected to work extended hours to fix breakdowns and attend to emergency repairs. They will need to fill the systems with gas or fluid using vacuum pumps and fill with refrigerant in line with regulations and governing procedures.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

A Certificate III/IV is usually needed to work in this job and the majority of workers have this qualification. Training is most commonly through an apprenticeship, which combines on-the-job training with the qualification. Registration or licensing is required.
